Ecosoft wound cartridge 2.5" x 10", 20 microns

Mechanical pre-filtration cartridge consisting of polypropylene thread wound around a central core, dimensions 2.5" x 10", filtration threshold 20 microns.

Ecosoft reference ECO-CPN251020ECO.

Wound cartridge: loading capacity above all

The wound thread forms a mesh whose density decreases from inside to outside. Large particles are trapped at the surface, finer ones progressively deeper into the core.

This construction gives the wound cartridge its main characteristic: high retention capacity before clogging. At equal threshold, it handles more material than a surface media before flow drops.

Polypropylene is inert, binder-free, and compatible with cold drinking water.

20 microns: the threshold for loaded water

20 microns is the open threshold of the range. It stops sand, fine gravel, rust particles and pipe debris, without clogging quickly.

Applications:

  • well, borehole or tank water, naturally loaded
  • after network work, when pipes release deposits
  • old network in cast iron or galvanised steel
  • first stage of a multi-stage chain, upstream of a 5 or 1 micron

On clean mains water and for a drinking line, a 20 micron alone lets too much fine material through: it then works upstream of a tighter threshold.

Wound and melt-blown

  • Wound (string wound): wound thread, high loading capacity, tolerant to heavily loaded water
  • Melt-blown: blown fibres, degressive porosity, more regular threshold

On heavily loaded water, the wound cartridge clogs less quickly. On mains water, melt-blown gives a more consistent threshold.

What it protects

At the head of the line, 20 microns handles the coarse material and protects everything downstream:

  • fine cartridges, 5 or 1 micron, which would last only days without it
  • carbon cartridges, whose inlet face clogs quickly
  • reverse osmosis membranes
  • softener valves, solenoid valves and fittings

Replacement

Replacement on flow loss, not on schedule.

  • mains water, first stage: 6 months indicative
  • well water or after network work: a few weeks to a few months
  • network purging itself: check visually from the first week

A transparent filter housing allows visual inspection: the cartridge browning signals replacement before pressure drop.

Installation

Insert in the direction of flow, check the presence and condition of the tank O-ring seal, tighten with a wrench without forcing and bleed air before returning to service.

An isolation valve upstream avoids a general shutdown at each cartridge change.
