Ecosoft PP melt blown filter cartridge 10" - 5 microns

This polypropylene melt blown fibre cartridge provides mechanical filtration of fine particles on a water network. It fits into a standard 10-inch cartridge housing and forms the intermediate filtration stage of a water treatment line.

Melt blown technology

The melt blown process involves blowing molten polypropylene into a web of very fine fibres, which is then wound into a cartridge. Fibre density increases from the outside to the inside: large particles are trapped on the surface, finer particles at the core of the media. This graduated filtration through the thickness provides greater retention capacity than a surface media, and therefore longer service life before clogging.

The cartridge is coreless: its rigidity comes from fibres fused together, which increases the effective filter surface area.

What the cartridge retains

At the 5-micron rating, the cartridge stops fine sediments, rust particles, fine lime particles and suspended matter that pass through coarser pre-filtration. This is the rating that provides finishing work before an activated carbon stage or reverse osmosis membrane.

Position in a filtration line

On a staged pre-filtration line, the 5-micron cartridge is installed after a 20-micron stage and before 1-micron, activated carbon or osmosis stages. This staging distributes the particle load: each cartridge works within its range, none clogs prematurely, and the annual consumables cost decreases.

Installed alone, it protects water softeners, pumps, heat exchangers and hot water production equipment from abrasive particles, the primary cause of valve and seal wear.

Replacement

The cartridge is replaced when pressure drop increases, or according to the replacement schedule defined at commissioning, which depends on the particle load in the inlet water and the volume consumed. At a finer rating, replacement frequency is logically higher than at 20 microns on the same water. Close the water inlet and depressurise the cartridge housing before any intervention. A melt blown cartridge cannot be washed: it must be replaced.
