Ecosoft melt-blown cartridge 2.5" x 10", 1 micron

Mechanical filtration cartridge in spun-blown polypropylene, dimensions 2.5" x 10", filtration threshold 1 micron. Standard format, compatible with 10" filter housings on the market.

Ecosoft reference ECO-CPV25101ECO.

The melt-blown process

The media is obtained by extrusion of molten polypropylene fibres, projected and bonded together without binder or adhesive. The resulting structure is a felt of fibres with decreasing porosity from the outside to the core.

Consequence: retention occurs in depth. The largest particles are stopped in the outer layers, the finest progressively deeper into the core. The media thus uses its entire thickness before clogging, rather than loading a single face.

Polypropylene is inert, contains no leachable binder, and is compatible with cold drinking water.

The 1 micron: a fine filtration threshold

The 1 micron retains particles that 5 and 10 micron thresholds allow to pass: fine silt, fine rust particles, suspended matter at the limit of visibility.

This fineness has a direct consequence: the cartridge loads faster. At equal flow rate and water quality, a 1 micron clogs significantly faster than a 5 micron.

Position in the treatment chain

The 1 micron is installed as a second stage, behind a more open pre-filter:

  • 20 or 25 microns as first stage on heavily loaded water or well water
  • 5 or 10 microns as first stage on mains water
  • 1 micron as second stage for fine filtration

The first filter handles the load, the second provides fine filtration. Installed alone at the head of the line on unfiltered water, a 1 micron becomes an expensive consumable.

What it protects

In fine filtration, the 1 micron intervenes before the most sensitive stages:

  • reverse osmosis membranes, which fine particles foul
  • block carbon cartridges, whose flow rate drops when the inlet face clogs
  • ultrafiltration cartridges, whose threshold clogs quickly without upstream fine filtration
  • solenoid valves and precision fittings

Replacement

Replacement is performed when flow rate drops. At 1 micron, the signal arrives sooner than at a more open threshold.

  • with upstream pre-filter, mains water: 6 months indicative
  • without pre-filter, or heavily loaded water: a few weeks to a few months
  • upstream of a reverse osmosis unit: do not exceed the recommended interval

A transparent filter housing allows visual inspection: the coloured cartridge signals replacement before pressure drops.

Installation

Insert the cartridge in the direction of flow, check the presence and condition of the housing O-ring, tighten with a wrench without forcing, and purge air before returning to service.

An isolation valve upstream avoids a general shutdown each time the cartridge is changed.
