Ecosoft melt-blown cartridge 2.5" x 10", 10 microns

Mechanical filtration cartridge in blown-melt polypropylene, dimensions 2.5" x 10", filtration threshold 10 microns.

Ecosoft reference ECO-CPV251010ECO.

The melt-blown process

The media is obtained by extrusion of molten polypropylene fibres, projected and bonded together without binder or adhesive. The structure is a felt of fibres with decreasing porosity from the outside to the core.

Retention occurs in depth: the largest particles are stopped in the outer layers, the finest progressively deeper into the core. The media uses its full thickness before clogging.

Polypropylene is inert, contains no leachable binder, and is compatible with cold drinking water.

10 microns: the versatile threshold

10 microns is the central compromise of the range. It stops sand, silt, rust particles and pipeline residues, whilst maintaining reasonable service life on a normally loaded mains network.

Positioning:

  • 20 microns: heavily loaded water, well water, post-works
  • 10 microns: versatile, mains network, single-stage installation
  • 5 microns: tighter pre-filtration, before carbon or reverse osmosis
  • 1 micron: polishing, second stage behind a more open pre-filter

In single-stage on a domestic or tertiary installation supplied by the mains, 10 microns covers the majority of cases without imposing frequent replacement.

What it protects

  • carbon cartridges, whose flow rate drops when the inlet face clogs
  • reverse osmosis membranes, which sediments foul
  • softener valves, whose seals and pistons deteriorate on contact with resin beads
  • solenoid valves, fittings and heat exchangers

Replacement

Replacement at loss of flow, not on schedule.

  • clean mains network: 6 months indicative
  • loaded network or post-works: 2 to 3 months, sometimes less
  • upstream of a reverse osmosis unit: do not exceed the service interval

A transparent filter housing allows visual inspection: the cartridge browning signals replacement before pressure drop.

Installation

Insert in the direction of flow, check the presence and condition of the housing O-ring, tighten with a wrench without forcing and purge air before returning to service.

An isolation valve upstream avoids shutting off the main supply at each cartridge change.
