Ecosoft PP melt blown filter cartridge 10" - 20 microns

This polypropylene melt blown fibre cartridge provides mechanical filtration of suspended particles on a water network. It fits into a standard 10 inch cartridge housing and forms the first stage of protection for a water treatment installation.

Melt blown technology

The melt blown process involves blowing molten polypropylene into a web of very fine fibres, then wound into a cartridge. Fibre density increases from the outside to the inside: large particles are trapped on the surface, finer particles at the core of the media. This graduated filtration through the thickness provides greater retention capacity than a surface media, and therefore longer service life before clogging.

The absence of a centre core eliminates one component and increases the effective filter surface area.

What the cartridge retains

At the 20 micron rating, the cartridge stops sand, silt, rust particles, fragments detached from pipework and visible suspended matter. This is a pre-filtration rating: it protects downstream equipment without clogging too quickly on heavily loaded water.

Role in an installation

Mounted at the head of the installation, this cartridge protects water softeners, reverse osmosis units, media filters, pumps and hot water production equipment. Abrasive particles are the primary cause of valve and seal wear: trapping them upstream extends the service life of the entire line.

On a reverse osmosis unit, pre-filtration at 20 microns prevents premature clogging of the 5 and 1 micron stages and the membrane.

Replacement

The cartridge is replaced when pressure drop increases, or according to the schedule defined at commissioning, which depends on the particle load in the inlet water and the volume consumed. Close the water inlet and depressurise the cartridge housing before any intervention. A melt blown cartridge cannot be washed: it must be replaced.
