Water softener Clack Legend Ideal 18 L

The Ideal is a monobloc water softener: resin tank and salt brine tank combined in a single casing, with no intermediate connections to be made on site. The 18 L format maintains the compact footprint of the range whilst gaining in height, to fit into a narrow utility room or technical space. It reduces water hardness, which is responsible for scale build-up in hot water cylinders, pipework and domestic appliances. Food-grade ion exchange resin and Clack Legend valve. White tank and blue cover.

Operation

Hard water passes through the resin bed, which captures calcium and magnesium and exchanges them for sodium: the water emerges softened. When the resin reaches saturation, the valve initiates brine regeneration, followed by rinsing, before returning the unit to service. The proportional mixing adjusts the residual hardness at outlet: water is not delivered at zero °fH, a proportion of raw water is allowed through to reach the target hardness.

Why soften water

Hard water deposits scale in pipework, hot water cylinders and heating elements. Energy consumption increases, appliances wear faster and taps become scaled up. By reducing hardness, the softener extends the service life of equipment, limits excess energy consumption caused by scale and reduces the quantities of soaps and detergents required.

Fewer limescale marks on taps, showerheads and dishes. Softer laundry and cleaning products that work more effectively in smaller quantities. The water heater and washing machine maintain their efficiency longer, reducing energy consumption and maintenance calls. The unit is compact and quiet.

Installation and maintenance

Installed on the main water inlet, after the meter. The by-pass allows the unit to be isolated for maintenance without cutting off the household water supply. The angled 3/4 connectors are supplied, which minimises additional purchases at installation. Commissioning involves setting the inlet hardness and regeneration parameters. Routine maintenance is limited to refilling the salt tank and periodic checks. The dual safety protects against tank overflow.

Choosing the right capacity

Resin volume is selected according to water hardness in °fH and the number of people in the household, not the number of draw-off points. An undersized unit regenerates too frequently, which wears the resin and increases salt consumption. The 18 L is designed for 3 to 4 people: the larger resin reserve spaces out regenerations and reduces salt and water consumption per unit volume treated.

Salt and consumables

The unit operates on regeneration salt in tablet form, to be maintained in the tank. The replenishment frequency depends on hardness and consumption. Periodic resin cleaner is recommended. Salt, hoses, connectors and maintenance parts compatible with the unit are in the DIMM catalogue.
