1/4" locking clip for quick connector

Small U-shaped piece that clips around the connector neck, between the release ring and the body.

Function

On an instant-connection connector, the tube is released by pushing the release ring towards the connector body. This makes the assembly removable, and also makes it vulnerable: unintentional pressure on this ring releases the tube.

The clip occupies the space into which the ring must retract. As long as it is in place, the ring cannot be pushed in and the tube cannot come out.

Where it is useful

• Accessible lines: under sink, in a technical cupboard, within reach of a stored object that may press on a connector
• Public-access premises, where the installation may be handled
• Professional installations in catering, laboratory or workshop
• Lines subject to vibration or repeated pulling on the tube
• Connectors in non-visible areas, where disconnection would only be noticed after water damage

The cost of the part bears no relation to that of a 1/4" line that disconnects under pressure inside a closed cabinet.

Visual indicator

The clip is coloured and visible. It provides immediate indication of the connector status: clip in place, connection locked. This is useful when resuming an installation, to distinguish connectors that have been checked from those that have not.

Installation

The clip is fitted after tube connection, never before.

1. Insert the tube fully into the connector, beyond the holding clamp
2. Pull moderately on the tube to check the lock
3. Clip the clip around the neck, between the release ring and the body

To remove: depressurise the line, remove the clip, then push the release ring whilst withdrawing the tube.

The clip is refitted with each reassembly. A deformed or split clip no longer performs its function and must be replaced.

Good to know

The clip prevents disconnection, it does not create the seal. A connector that weeps is not corrected by fitting a clip: the tube cut, insertion depth and O-ring condition must be checked.

It does not compensate for a tube inserted halfway. A tube that has never reached the stop will come loose despite the clip.
