Empty 20" container for Big Blue housings

Empty, refillable cartridge body in Big Blue 20" format. It is filled with the media of your choice and put into service like a standard cartridge. Media not included. Aquapro reference PR-GACBB-20-CNR.

The principle

An off-the-shelf cartridge is a fixed assembly: one body, one media, one service life. Once the media is spent, the whole thing is discarded.

The empty container separates the two. The body is reusable, only the media is consumable. Open it, empty the spent media, refill, close it.

Why choose it

Freedom of media. This is the main argument. You are no longer limited to the catalogue of prefabricated cartridges: granular activated carbon, ion exchange resin, KDF®, specific iron/manganese media, a blend built for a particular case. On atypical water, well, borehole, local problem, this is often the only way to get exactly the media needed in the right format.

Cost per litre. Media bought in bulk is noticeably cheaper than the same media packed into a cartridge, and the gap widens with the 20" format and with refill frequency.

Waste volume. On an installation refilling several times a year, discarding only the media changes the picture significantly.

Big Blue 20" format

Big Blue 20" is the large format of housing-based filtration: high media volume, therefore long contact time and high service life. It is precisely the format where bulk media pays off most, since it is the one that consumes the most.

Filling

Fill without compacting and leave free space at the top, the media has to be able to rearrange itself; a container packed to the brim creates unnecessary pressure drop and can deform.

Check that screens and media are compatible: too fine a grain size passes through a screen intended for granular media and ends up in the network.

Check the condition of the container seal at every refill, and close it properly.

After returning to service, flush to drain for several minutes, any new media releases fines at start-up, activated carbon in particular.

To know before ordering

The container ships empty: the media must be ordered separately. It also requires manual work at every refill, where a standard cartridge is swapped in three minutes. That is the trade-off: more flexibility and a lower media cost, against a bit of handling.
