5" woven PP fibre cartridge, 5 microns

5" mechanical pre-filtration cartridge, polypropylene woven fibre media, filtration threshold 5 microns. Dimensions 6.3 x 6.3 x 12.5 cm.

Aquapro reference PR-PPS-05-5.

Woven fibre

The media consists of polypropylene thread wound and woven around a central core. The structure creates a regular mesh that retains particles on the surface and throughout the depth.

Characteristics of this type of media:

  • depth retention, with good dirt-holding capacity before clogging
  • stable structure under flow, with no fibre shedding
  • inert polypropylene, compatible with cold sanitary water

The 5 micron threshold

At 5 microns, the cartridge retains sand, silt, rust particles and pipeline residues. This is the standard pre-filtration threshold on mains water: it stops most visible and semi-fine particles without clogging rapidly.

Positioning in the range:

  • 20 microns: heavily loaded water, well water, after network work
  • 10 microns: intermediate
  • 5 microns: standard pre-filtration on mains water
  • 1 micron and below: polishing, as second stage

5" format

The 5" format is the compact size of the range. It equips small-capacity filter housings, installations with limited space and point-of-use pre-filtrations.

As the media volume is reduced compared to a 10", the retention capacity is lower: replacement frequency is shorter at equal flow rate.

What it protects

In pre-filtration, the cartridge retains particles before costly stages:

  • carbon cartridges, whose flow drops when clogged
  • reverse osmosis membranes, which sediments foul
  • valves, solenoid valves and fittings, whose seats and seals deteriorate

Replacement

The sediment pre-filter is replaced at flow loss, not on schedule.

  • clean mains water: 6 months indicative, shorter in 5" format
  • loaded network or after work: 2 to 3 months, sometimes less
  • upstream of a reverse osmosis unit: do not exceed the replacement frequency

A transparent filter housing allows visual inspection: a browned or grey cartridge signals replacement before pressure drop.

Installation

Insert the cartridge in the direction of flow, check the presence and condition of the housing O-ring seal, tighten with a wrench without forcing, purge before returning to service.

An isolation valve upstream avoids shutting off the main supply at each cartridge change.
