10" woven PP fibre cartridge, 20 microns

Mechanical pre-filtration cartridge in 10" format, polypropylene woven fibre media, filtration threshold 20 microns.

Aquapro reference PR-PPS-10-20.

Woven fibre

The media consists of polypropylene thread wound and woven around a central core. The mesh retains particles on the surface and throughout the depth, providing deep retention and good dirt-holding capacity before clogging.

Polypropylene is inert, contains no leachable binders, and is compatible with cold drinking water. The structure remains stable under flow, with no fibre shedding.

20 microns: the head-of-line threshold

20 microns is the open threshold of the range. It stops sand, fine gravel, rust particles and pipe debris, without loading quickly.

Applications:

  • well, borehole or tank water
  • after network work, when pipelines release their deposits
  • old network in cast iron or galvanised steel
  • first stage of a multi-level chain, upstream of a 10, 5 or 1 micron
  • pump or meter protection, where coarse particles must be stopped without restricting flow

On a drinking water line, a 20 micron cartridge alone allows too much fine material through: it works upstream of a tighter threshold.

Open or tight: the trade-off

An open threshold lasts longer but retains little fine material. A tight threshold retains much but clogs quickly.

The 20 micron sits on the side of longevity. It is the right choice when the priority is to run long without intervention, or to prevent a fine pre-filter from blocking within weeks.

Positioning in the PPS range: 20 microns at head of line, 10 microns as all-rounder, 1 micron for finishing.

What it protects

  • fine cartridges, 10, 5 or 1 micron, which would last much less without it
  • carbon cartridges, whose inlet face clogs quickly
  • reverse osmosis membranes
  • softener valves, solenoid valves and fittings

Replacement

Replacement at flow loss, not on schedule.

  • mains water, as first stage: 6 months indicative
  • well water or after work: a few weeks to a few months
  • network purging: check visually from the first week

A transparent filter housing allows visual inspection: the cartridge browning signals replacement before pressure drop.

Installation

Insert in the direction of flow, check the presence and condition of the housing O-ring, tighten with a wrench without forcing, and bleed air before returning to service.

An isolation valve upstream avoids a general shut-off at each cartridge change.
