Overview

Industrial bottle filter filled with pyrolusite (manganese dioxide) and sand media, on Fleck 2850 AiQ valve with electronic control, NBP piston. Bottle 24 x 72 TB with 6-arm star strainer, 200 L of media, supplied without gravel bed. Point-of-entry installation for treating mains water, well water or borehole water.

Filtration principle

Pyrolusite is a dense mineral media based on natural manganese dioxide, which oxidises dissolved iron and manganese on contact with the filter bed. Particles formed are retained in the media and removed during backwash. It is the media for highly ferruginous waters, where Birm reaches its limits.

Media

Its high density is its main advantage and main constraint: it gives it high retention capacity and long service life, but requires a higher backwash flow rate than other media. This is the point to verify before installation, especially at this volume. The media regenerates by simple backwash, it does not consume and requires no chemical.

Fleck 2850 AiQ valve

The valve automatically pilots the cycles: service, backwash, rinse and return to service. Electronic control, NBP piston, no raw water bypass during the cycle. The 6-arm star strainer at the bottom of the bottle distributes water across the entire bed section, essential at this diameter to prevent preferential paths and ensure uniform backwash.

Sizing and installation

Sizing is based on peak flow and water analysis, verifying that the network can supply the backwash flow required by pyrolusite on a 24-inch bottle. Provide a drain sized accordingly, electrical supply for the valve, level floor and frost-free location. Upstream sediment pre-filtration protects the media and extends wash intervals.

Maintenance

No periodic refill, no additives. Maintenance is limited to checking valve settings and verifying backwash flow. Regular water analysis allows adjustment of cycle frequency.
