Why meter water

Metering water means controlling it: metering and sub-metering track consumption point by point, fairly allocate costs between occupants or workshops, detect leaks by comparing indexes and bill on actual use. A reliable meter with a pulse output integrates into a supervision system (BMS) or remote-reading setup for automated monitoring with no site visit.

Principle

This pulse emitter mounts on the water meter to convert dial rotation into electrical pulses usable by a remote-reading system, a BMS or a data logger. Depending on the model, detection is via Reed contact or Hall sensor.

How it works

The Reed contact closes each time a dial magnet passes, generating one pulse per preset volume; the (powered) Hall version offers contactless detection and richer outputs (e.g. two channels, flow direction). The cable connects to the metering equipment's pulse input.

Reliability & anti-fraud

A water meter's reliability lies in its design: dry dial isolated from the water, magnetic transmission between turbine and register (which also protects against magnet fraud), a hermetically sealed register to stay readable over time, and an epoxy-coated brass or corrosion-resistant cast-iron body. Choosing the right meter

Choosing a meter depends on the flow to measure and pipe diameter (DN), temperature (cold or hot water) and measuring range (ratio R). The pulse output

The pulse output turns a water volume into electrical signals: each pulse corresponds to a preset volume (pulse value, adjustable among several values). Connected to a logger, PLC or BMS, it enables remote reading, leak alarms, allocation and volume-proportional control. Depending on the model, two outputs (identical or different) and flow direction are available.

Installation & maintenance

Installation is on a full pipe, in the arrow direction, preferably horizontal to preserve accuracy (maximum ratio). Follow the recommended upstream/downstream straight lengths and fit a strainer upstream to protect the mechanism. Isolation valves ease removal. Maintenance is minimal: periodic checks and replacement at metrological end of life.
