Adriatica 10 L water softener, Autotrol 255-760 Easy-iQ valve

Monobloc water softener: the resin tank and salt container are integrated into a single body. It reduces the hardness of the supply water and thus limits scale formation in the hot water tank, pipework and connected appliances.

Operation

Hard water passes through the ion exchange resin bed, which captures calcium and magnesium and releases sodium in exchange. The water exits softened.

When the resin is saturated, the valve initiates brine regeneration: backwash, brine draw, rinse and water return to the container. The resin regains its exchange capacity.

The Autotrol 255-760 Easy-iQ valve

Autotrol is a brand of the Pentair group, long established in domestic regeneration valves.

The Easy-iQ version provides electronic volumetric control: consumption volume counting and regeneration triggering are managed by the control board, with display and settings accessible.

Compared to a mechanical valve, electronics provide finer settings, status display and faster commissioning configuration.

Volumetric, not time-based

Regeneration is triggered by the volume of water actually consumed, not at fixed time intervals.

Salt and rinse water consumption therefore follows household usage. A prolonged absence does not trigger unnecessary regeneration, high consumption triggers it when needed.

On a 10 L unit, where exchange capacity is limited, volumetric control is particularly relevant: it prevents resin depletion between calendar cycles.

10 L: the compact format of the range

10 L of resin corresponds to a small household, apartment, studio or limited point of use.

Since exchange capacity is proportional to resin volume, a 10 L regenerates more frequently than a 22 L at equal consumption and hardness. This is the accepted compromise of reduced footprint.

Two parameters determine the choice: the hardness of the inlet water in °fH and the number of people. An undersized unit regenerates too often, consumes more salt and wears the resin faster. Measuring inlet TH before validating the volume is the only way to size correctly.

Monobloc body

Injected polystyrene body. The removable cover is moulded in one piece, with a translucent section that allows salt level checking without opening.

Mixing

Proportional mixing allows adjustment of outlet water hardness by reintroducing a portion of unsoftened water.

Completely softened water is not the objective on a distribution network. Mixing allows targeting residual hardness and controlling it by TH test.

Double safety

The unit is equipped with double safety, which limits the risk of salt container overflow.

Installation

The unit is installed on the main water inlet, after the meter, with the supplied bypass.

To be provided:

• a drain for regeneration discharge, with air break mandatory: never direct and sealed connection to sewer
• an electrical outlet nearby
• a salt container overflow connected
• access to the cover for salt filling

At commissioning, set the measured inlet hardness, then check the outlet hardness obtained after mixing adjustment. Recheck after the first complete regeneration.

Maintenance

Maintain salt level in the container, in tablet form. The translucent section of the cover allows visual checking without disassembly.

Periodically check for salt bridging, a crust that forms above water level and prevents brine formation: the unit then runs without softening.

Periodic resin cleaner extends exchange capacity, particularly on iron-bearing water.
