Overview
This water hardness test strip provides a quick estimate of the TH (total hardness) of water in seconds. Simple and requiring no manipulation, it allows an initial assessment before installing a water softener, or rapid monitoring of softened water.
Reading thresholds
- < 5.4 °fH
- > 7.2 °fH
- > 15.1 °fH
- > 25.2 °fH
Values are expressed in French degrees (°fH), the reference unit in France and Belgium. For reference, 1 °dH (German degree) ≈ 1.79 °fH.
Use
Immerse the test strip in the water sample, then compare the coloured zones to the reading scale. The number of zones that change colour indicates the hardness range. The result is immediate, with no equipment required.
Applications
- Assessment before installing a water softener, to evaluate the hardness of mains or well water
- Outlet monitoring of a water softener: verify that the water is properly softened
- Blend adjustment: monitor residual TH after adjusting the mixing valve
- Handover to customer during commissioning or maintenance
Good to know
The test strip provides range-based estimation. For precise measurement to the degree, particularly for fine-tuning a water softener, a drop titration kit is used.
