Complete shower filter MK-808, silver head, opaque body
Shower filter supplied complete, with a silver head and an opaque body. It screws in between the shower arm and the shower head, with no plumbing changes and no work on the mains.
Why filter shower water
Chlorine in mains water is not only a drinking issue. In the shower it is inhaled as vapour in a confined space, and it acts in direct contact with skin and hair.
That is the most common reason people buy this kind of product: a tight feeling on the skin after showering, dull or dry hair, or simply the smell of chlorine in the cubicle. A shower filter treats chlorine and odour at the point where the water is used.
Note: a shower filter treats chlorine and taste/odour, it does not soften the water. On hard water it does not replace a softener, the two answer different problems.
The opaque body
The opacity is not cosmetic. A clear body in a shower cubicle, exposed to light and permanently full of water, encourages algae growth inside. The opaque body blocks the light and avoids that nuisance.
Fitted without a plumber
That is the product's commercial strength: no special tools, nothing to cut, nothing to crimp. The filter screws onto the standard shower arm thread, and the shower head screws back onto the filter. In a rented property it comes off as easily as it goes on.
That makes it an impulse purchase and basket add-on on a water treatment order, and a good entry product for a customer discovering filtration.
Fitting and maintenance
Unscrew the shower head, screw the filter onto the shower arm, screw the shower head back onto the filter. Seal with PTFE tape if needed and tighten by hand, the body is polymer and cracks if tightened with pliers.
Run water for a few minutes before first use to flush the media fines. Replace the internal cartridge according to the manufacturer's recommendations, or as soon as the chlorine smell returns in the cubicle.
