Pressure reducer 3/8", 70 PSI

Pressure limiter pre-set to 70 PSI, or 4.83 bar. It is installed on the supply line of a reverse osmosis unit or filtration system to reduce mains pressure to a value acceptable to the downstream equipment.

Tube connection 3/8". Aquapro reference PR-RD-70-38.

Function

On mains networks, pressure can exceed 6 bar and vary according to time and location. The consequences for a water treatment installation are:

  • permanent stress on filter housing bodies and tanks
  • strain on push-fit connectors and O-rings
  • water hammer transmitted to the membrane and reservoir
  • exceeding the maximum allowable pressure of the equipment, which voids the warranty

The reducer caps the outlet pressure at 4.83 bar, regardless of upstream pressure, within the limits of its operating range.

70 PSI setting: positioning

The range includes several settings. The 70 PSI is the high value:

  • 40 PSI (2.75 bar): low setting, for equipment with low maximum allowable pressure
  • 70 PSI (4.83 bar): high setting, which protects the installation from overpressure while maintaining high service pressure

The choice is based on the maximum allowable pressure of the downstream equipment and the minimum pressure the membrane needs to operate correctly. A setting that is too low on a reverse osmosis unit degrades the conversion rate and extends fill time.

Check the allowable pressure of the equipment before selecting the setting.

3/8" version

The 3/8" corresponds to high-flow supply lines, high-output reverse osmosis units and professional installations. The 1/4" version (PR-RD-40-14 and equivalents) covers standard domestic lines.

Installation

Install on the supply line, upstream of the equipment to be protected, after the shut-off valve. Observe the direction of flow indicated on the body: if mounted backwards, the reducer will not regulate.

On push-fit connectors: cut the tube straight, insert until it stops, check the lock by pulling on the tube. Pressurise gradually and check for leaks before closing the housing.

A downstream pressure gauge allows you to verify the actual setting in service.

Limitations

The reducer is pre-set and not adjustable. It does not serve as a check valve, shut-off valve or filter. Upstream pressure below the setting passes through the equipment unchanged.
