Pressure reducer 1/4" - 40 psi

Inline pressure reducer with 1/4" connection, set at 40 psi, equivalent to 2.75 bar. Aquapro reference PR-RD-40-14.

It is installed upstream of the equipment to be protected and reduces the network pressure to a constant value, regardless of inlet pressure.

Purpose of a pressure reducer on a water treatment line

A mains water network does not deliver stable pressure. It varies according to time of day, neighbourhood consumption, floor level, and can rise significantly at night when water use stops.

A pressure reducer clips these variations. At the outlet, pressure is maintained at the set value, here 2.75 bar, even if the inlet rises to 5 or 6 bar.

Three practical reasons to install it.

Protect components. On a reverse osmosis unit, filter housings, quick couplings and membrane cartridge holders have a maximum working pressure. Repeated overnight overpressure fatigues seals and cracks polymer bowls, often without anyone making the connection.

Stabilise operation. An appliance sized for a given pressure range performs poorly outside it. On a system with a calibrated flow restrictor, varying pressure causes the production to reject ratio to vary.

Limit leaks. Most leaks at quick couplings occur under high pressure. Clipping the peak eliminates the moment when the connection fails.

Why exactly 40 psi

The 40 psi setting is not arbitrary, it is a compromise value for a drinking water line.

Enough pressure for a reverse osmosis unit to work correctly and fill its tank in acceptable time. Low enough to remain in a comfortable range for components of an under-sink installation.

A point to verify before ordering. This reducer is factory-set to a fixed value. It is not adjustable. If your application requires a different pressure, you need a differently set model, or an adjustable reducer.

The limitation to know

A pressure reducer lowers pressure, it never increases it.

If inlet pressure is already below 2.75 bar, the unit simply lets it pass through. It provides no benefit and improves nothing.

This is a point to clarify with the customer, because confusion is common: on an installation lacking pressure, the answer is a booster pump, not a reducer. The two address opposite problems.

Where to use it

Upstream of an reverse osmosis unit under the sink, protecting a filter cartridge holder or membrane cartridge holder, on a 1/4" tube distribution line supplying an ice maker, coffee machine or American-style refrigerator.

More generally, anywhere sensitive equipment is on a network with high or unstable pressure.

Installation

Turn off water and depressurise before work.

Install the reducer upstream of the equipment to be protected, respecting the flow direction indicated on the body. Installed backwards, it will not regulate.

Check the connection standard before ordering: a 1/4" can denote NPTF threading, BSP threading or a quick coupling for tube. These are not interchangeable.

After water is restored, check downstream pressure with a pressure gauge. This is the only way to confirm the reducer is working, and it takes two minutes.
