Ecosoft CROSS 90 Balance reverse osmosis unit, direct flow with mineralisation

Under-sink reverse osmosis unit with direct production, no storage tank. Five filtration stages across three cartridges, with integrated mineralisation at outlet.

Direct flow rate of 1.5 L/min, or 90 L/h. TDS of produced water between 40 and 70 mg/L.

Ecosoft reference ECO-MO3600MPECO, article code ART125680.

What the membrane retains

The reverse osmosis membrane works at the scale of ions and dissolved molecules. It therefore retains a large proportion of what mechanical filtration or carbon leave behind:

  • dissolved salts and hardness ions, calcium and magnesium
  • heavy metal ions, notably lead, copper, nickel, chromium and cadmium
  • nitrates and sulphates
  • dissolved organic micropollutants, including PFAS
  • treatment residues and disinfection by-products

Ecosoft reports PFAS removal efficiency of up to 99.8 %, confirmed by testing.

The complex CF pre-filter handles particles and chlorine upstream, the latter needing to be retained to protect the membrane.

Direct flow, no storage tank

On a conventional reverse osmosis unit, slow production is stored in a pressurised tank that feeds the tap. Here, the membrane produces directly at the moment of use.

What this changes:

  • Reduced footprint: no pressure vessel under the sink, freeing up cabinet space
  • Always fresh water: no water stored for hours or days
  • No pre-charge to monitor: one less maintenance point
  • No taste drop at the end of tank life

1.5 L/min at the tap corresponds to filling a jug without noticeable wait.

Integrated mineralisation

Reverse osmosis retains dissolved salts, including minerals. The MCB mineralising post-filter with carbon block reintroduces minerals at outlet and refines taste.

Result: controlled TDS between 40 and 70 mg/L, instead of near-demineralised water.

This is what distinguishes the Balance version from a reverse osmosis unit without mineralisation.

Intelligent functions

Automatic membrane rinsing. The membrane is rinsed automatically, maintaining production quality over time and limiting fouling.

Automatic protection. Water is cut off if a leak is detected or prolonged abnormal operation occurs. On an under-sink installation, this safety prevents water damage.

LED indication. The tap and unit display water quality and remaining cartridge life. The user can see when maintenance is approaching, without waiting for taste degradation.

Remote monitoring. Unit monitoring is carried out remotely.

The three cartridges

  • CF, complex pre-filter (ECO-CPVDFRO): replacement every 12 months
  • RO, 600 GPD membrane element (ECO-CSVRO600DFRO): replacement every 24 months
  • MCB, mineralising post-filter with carbon block (ECO-PDCBDFRO): replacement every 12 months

Compliance with CF pre-filter replacement intervals determines membrane life, which is the most costly component.

Replacement in less than 7 minutes

Cartridges are removed without tools, by quarter turn, without tank drainage or unit disassembly. Ecosoft reports complete replacement in less than 7 minutes.

On a maintenance round, the difference from a conventional tank-based reverse osmosis unit is significant.

Specifications

  • Direct flow rate: 90 L/h, or 1.5 L/min
  • Recovery rate: 60 %
  • TDS of produced water: 40 to 70 mg/L
  • Inlet pressure: 2 to 5 bar
  • Power supply: 230 V, 50 Hz
  • Connection: 1/2" and 3/8"
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 435 x 140 x 458 mm

Recovery rate of 60 %

60 % of inlet water is produced as reverse osmosis water, 40 % goes to reject. On a conventional domestic reverse osmosis unit, the ratio is often considerably less favourable.

Installation

Mounted under sink, on mains water, with dedicated tap.

To be provided:

  • a cold water supply with isolation valve
  • a drain for concentrate reject, with air break
  • an electrical outlet nearby
  • a hole in worktop or sink for the tap

Check inlet pressure: the permitted range is 2 to 5 bar. Above 5 bar, a pressure reducer is required.

Applications

Apartments and individual homes, domestic use.
