Opaque polyethylene tubing 6 mm, sold by the metre

Connection tubing in polyethylene, 6 mm outside diameter, in the opaque version. It pushes straight into push-fit fittings to the 6 mm metric standard, with no glue and no special tooling.

Why opaque

Opacity is not a cosmetic choice. A clear or translucent tube lets light through: in water standing between draw-offs, that is enough to start algae growth inside the tubing. The result is visible, a greenish film, and is only fixed by replacing the line.

Opaque tubing blocks the light, and with it photosynthesis. It is the right choice wherever a run stays exposed to daylight or permanent lighting: surface-mounted runs, glazed rooms, lit cellars, outdoor installations.

Metric 6 mm, not 1/4"

Do not confuse the two: 6 mm metric and 1/4" (6.35 mm) are separate standards. A 0.35 mm difference is enough to compromise the seal of a push-fit fitting, the tube seems to hold, but the collet does not grip properly and the leak shows up under pressure. Check the standard of your fittings before ordering.

Applications

Low-flow lines on water treatment installations: dosing, sampling, feeding a small appliance, short links between components. 6 mm remains a service diameter, for a feed or distribution line, choose 8 or 10 mm instead.

Sold by the metre

Sale by the metre suits repairs, short runs and site top-ups, without opening a full roll. For installations in series, the roll remains more economical per metre.

Installation

Cut the tubing square with a proper tube cutter for a clean section, then push it fully into the fitting up to the stop. Avoid tight bend radii close to fittings and keep the tubing away from heat sources.
