Empty brine well 42 cm with 2 pipe caps 4"
Brine well tube 42 cm high, supplied empty, no strainer, no float, together with 2 pipe caps 4" for grey pipe.
What a brine well does
In a softener's salt tank, the suction strainer and the safety float must not sit directly in the salt. The brine well is the vertical tube that isolates them: it creates a clean column of brine, clear of crystals and debris.
With no well, or a cracked one, salt comes into direct contact with the strainer. Two classic consequences: the strainer blocks and the softener no longer draws enough brine, or the salt forms a bridge that jams the float in the up position. Either way, regeneration goes wrong and hardness climbs back at the tap, with no visible alarm.
Supplied empty
The well is sold without internal equipment. That is the right choice to:
- replace a cracked or broken well while keeping the existing strainer and float, still in good condition
- complete an installation where the internals are supplied separately
- build a service stock without tying up internal parts that themselves last a long time
The 2 caps 4" close the tube top and bottom: they stop salt entering from above and contaminating the column, and keep the well closed at the foot.
Installation
Check the height available in the tank before ordering: too tall and the lid will not close, too short and the column is not protected over its full height.
Set the well vertically, seated firmly on the tank floor. Check the float travels freely over its full stroke once the internals are back in place. Take the opportunity to empty and rinse the tank: a new well on a crusted floor solves only half the problem.
