Complete UV steriliser set 6 GPM, inlet/outlet 3/4"

Complete UV steriliser: polished stainless steel 304 treatment chamber, one UV-C lamp, one quartz sleeve and a ballast with timer and audible alarm.

Treatment flow rate 6 GPM, i.e. 1 362 litres per hour. Inlet and outlet 3/4". Horizontal mounting.

Aquapro reference PR-UV-6GPM-H-34.

UV-C treatment

Water circulates in the stainless steel chamber around a lamp emitting in the ultraviolet C range, at 254 nm. This radiation acts on the DNA of micro-organisms present in the water and prevents their multiplication.

The treatment is physical: it adds nothing to the water, does not alter taste, odour or mineral composition, and generates no by-products.

It has, however, no residual effect: the action occurs only in the chamber, during passage. Downstream recontamination is not treated. The steriliser should therefore be placed as close as possible to the point to be protected.

6 GPM or 12 GPM: choose based on peak flow rate

A UV steriliser is sized by the maximum flow rate passing through it, not by the average flow rate.

The exposure time of water to the lamp decreases as flow rate increases. Beyond the rated flow rate, the dose received drops and treatment effectiveness is lost, with no warning signal.

  • 6 GPM, 1 362 L/h: point of use, small inlet point, apartment, chalet, installation with low number of simultaneous draw-offs
  • 12 GPM, 2 725 L/h: main inlet of a large single-family home, small commercial application

Check the actual peak flow rate of the installation before confirming the capacity. In case of doubt, the larger model presents no technical drawback, the reverse does.

Inlet and outlet 3/4"

This version is fitted with 3/4" connections. 3/4" is the standard diameter of a general water inlet to a dwelling, which avoids reductions during installation and the pressure drop they add.

Ballast with timer and audible alarm

The ballast incorporates an operating time counter and a buzzer.

This is a real function, not a gimmick: a UV lamp continues to emit light long after losing its germicidal effectiveness. Radiation at 254 nm decreases with hours, whilst visible blue light remains. Without a counter, nothing indicates that the lamp needs replacing, and the installation runs giving the illusion of functioning.

The timer signals the deadline, the audible alarm makes it impossible to ignore.

Polished stainless steel 304 chamber

Stainless steel withstands pressure, does not degrade under UV radiation and is easy to clean. The polished interior reflects radiation and improves dose distribution in the chamber.

Working pressure 8 bar. Construction in stainless steel 316 is available as an option, for more aggressive waters.

Pre-filtration mandatory upstream

UV radiation does not penetrate particles. Turbid or heavily laden water creates shadow zones in the chamber, and micro-organisms sheltered behind a particle do not receive the dose.

Pre-filtration is therefore essential, typically 5 microns, more open at first stage on heavily laden water.

Water must be clear at the steriliser inlet: this is an operating requirement, not a comfort recommendation.

Maintenance

UV lamp: annual replacement, according to hours recorded by the timer. A lit lamp is not an effective lamp.

Quartz sleeve: periodic cleaning. A deposit of scale or iron on the quartz blocks radiation. On hard or ferruginous water, this is the most frequent maintenance point.

O-rings: check at each intervention on the sleeve.

Switch off electrical power and depressurise before any intervention. Do not touch the lamp or quartz with bare hands: fingerprints bake onto the glass and create opaque spots.

Installation

Horizontal in-line mounting, after pre-filtration, as close as possible to the point to be protected.

To be provided:

  • an isolation valve upstream and downstream
  • axial clearance to extract the lamp and sleeve: the unit measures 560 mm, approximately the same clearance is needed along the axis
  • an electrical outlet nearby
  • an ambient temperature between 2 and 40 °C
  • lamp start-up a few minutes before the first draw-off after shutdown
