Capillary flow restrictor 575 ml/min, 75 GPD membrane

Capillary insert for the drain line of a reverse osmosis system. It sets the concentrate flow at 575 ml/min, the value matched to 75 GPD membranes. It slides into the dedicated tube or fitting, with no moving parts and nothing to adjust.

What a flow restrictor does

With no restriction on the drain, water takes the easiest path and runs straight to waste: pressure never builds on the feed side of the membrane and permeate production collapses.

The restrictor creates the back pressure osmosis needs, while still allowing enough cross-flow to sweep away the salts held at the membrane surface. That balance determines both the system's recovery rate and the membrane's service life.

The right rating for the right membrane

The restrictor value must match the membrane fitted. 575 ml/min for a 75 GPD: too open and production and water quality drop; too closed and the membrane scales prematurely. When changing to a membrane of a different capacity, replace the restrictor as well.

Replacement

The capillary fouls and blocks over time, particularly on loaded water. Almost no drain flow, falling production or rising conductivity are the classic symptoms: check the restrictor before blaming the membrane.
