This is the finest rating in mechanical cartridge filtration: beyond it you move into membrane territory.

Pleating: why it changes everything

A conventional cartridge — string wound or melt-blown — is a cylinder of media. Its filtration area is that of its outer envelope.

A pleated cartridge folds the media concertina-style around the full circumference. At identical dimensions it develops a filtration area several times greater.

Two direct consequences, decisive at 0,2 µm:

Low pressure drop. Flow spreads across a large area, so each cm² works lightly. Without pleating, a 0,2 µm rating would create a prohibitive pressure drop from commissioning.

A usable service life. Such a fine rating captures a great deal of material. The developed area delays blinding accordingly — on a non-pleated cartridge, the same fineness would saturate within days.

All-polypropylene construction

Media, core, end caps and seal: everything is polypropylene, assembled by thermal bonding. No adhesive, no binder, no resin.

Nothing can therefore migrate into the filtrate — a structuring criterion in food, pharmaceutical and process applications. Polypropylene is also chemically inert and compatible with a wide pH range.

The 0,2 micron rating

At 0,2 µm, the cartridge captures ultra-fine particles, invisible and out of reach of any conventional media — colloidal sediment, carbon fines, precipitates, particles shed by upstream stages.

It is a terminal polishing stage, never a prefilter. Fitted last, it secures the particulate quality of the water immediately before the point of use or the process.

It is never installed alone. A 0,2 µm cartridge placed directly on raw water blinds immediately. It requires an upstream chain — typically 20 µm, then 5 µm, then 1 µm — each stage absorbing the load the next must not see. That is the condition for the 0,2 µm to have an economically acceptable service life.

Where to use it

As final filtration on process lines, bottling installations, laboratory circuits, food and beverage applications, and as terminal polishing on demanding water treatment trains.

Replacement

Replacement is driven by pressure drop, measured across the filter. It is the only reliable indicator: at this rating, blinding is visible neither to the eye nor in the flow, until it becomes abrupt.

Set a maximum differential pressure for your installation and replace at that value. A fine cartridge pushed beyond it has its structure loaded by a rising delta P — with, at the extreme, a risk of media deformation.

Fitting

Shut off the water and depressurise before opening the housing. Check the cartridge seal and its correct seating. After repressurising, flush to drain until stable before connecting to the process.
