Jaco Fitting 1044 with O-Ring 1/4" Tube × 1/4" | Aquapro

Jaco 1044 fitting with O-ring, 1/4" tube × 1/4" thread

Fitting of the Jaco 1044 type, for 1/4" tube with a 1/4" thread, supplied with its O-ring. This is a mechanically clamped fitting: the tube is held by a ferrule compressed by the nut, and sealing is provided by the O-ring.

Jaco, not push-fit

Unlike a quick-connect fitting where the tube plugs in and locks itself, a Jaco requires the nut to be tightened. In exchange for that extra step: greater mechanical holding power on lines subject to vibration, pressure surges or repeated handling.

This is the fitting type found on RO systems, beverage dispensers, water coolers and coffee machines, particularly on equipment of American origin.

What the O-ring does

On a Jaco fitting, sealing does not come from clamping the tube but from the O-ring. A missing, dry or pinched ring makes the fitting leak even when perfectly tightened, and tightening further does not help, it only crushes the ferrule and deforms the tube.

Hence the value of a fitting supplied with the seal included: at every reassembly you start from a fresh ring rather than reusing one that has already worked.

Fitting

Cut the tube square with a proper tube cutter. Slide the nut and then the ferrule onto the tube in the right order before pushing it fully into the fitting body. Check the O-ring is present and correctly positioned, tighten the nut hand-tight and add a quarter to half turn with a spanner, without forcing. Pressurise and check for leaks before closing up.
